Alka Sharma has an extensive background in Latin Dance and she shares the energy and instinct with her instructors. Few others can offer this to their class. Sweat it out, build strength, cardio, balance and cleanse the pores all the while feeling the infectious energy of  Alka Sharma’s instructors. Zumba, with its strong “fun” element, is the perfect way of firming up muscle, de-stressing and combining all these elements into developing a healthy individual, balanced in all senses of the word.

Tips for Zumba class beginners

Zumba feels great! The choreographed workout hits the sweet spot between mental stimulation and physical fitness. When you step into a Zumba class, don’t hold back. Let loose, flow with the beat, and follow the lead. Here are some tips for beginners:

1. Show up in comfortable clothes

Like any other workout, you must be able to move freely. Find comfortable clothing options like yoga pants, leggings, and tank tops.

2. Wear shoes that are flat with a low tread

You will move much better when your shoes are flatter and less slippery. The springier, the better.

3. Ease into it with 2-3 classes weekly

Zumba is a real workout! Your body will need time to get acquainted and develop the required stamina, so don’t overdo it.

4. Eat something before your Zumba class

You will need energy to keep up, so ensure that you eat a real meal around two hours before the session or have a light snack right before class.

5. Pack a water bottle

All the movement will get you sweating! Be sure to bring a water bottle to stay hydrated.

6. Have a medical condition? Consult your doctor before Zumba

If you have a heart or metabolic condition or are pregnant, you should get your doctor’s advice before joining Zumba.

7. You might not get the move right the first time, but that’s okay

Don’t judge yourself. Just dance. The more you practice Zumba, the better you become at it!

What to Expect From Your First Zumba Class

New, diverse, and dynamic dance moves

You could be a pro dancer, but Zumba still has many dance moves that you might not get right on the first attempt. Take it slow, and don’t worry if you mess up.

Salsa, reggaeton, and hip-hop dance styles

The best Zumba classes successfully fuse dance styles from all areas of music. Get ready for something new every time you step into the class.

You will start with a warm-up and conclude with a cool down

Before the dancing begins, a Zumba warm-up may include jumping jacks, lunges, and jogging. After the dance workout, your cool down may consist of light jogging and stretches.

Stay hydrated during the session

Whether indoors or outdoors, the best Zumba classes should schedule water breaks, often coinciding with playlist changes. Use that window to rehydrate.

Zumba’s incredible history!

Colombia in the mid 1990s was where Zumba began. By sheer chance, a fitness class instructor, Beto Perez, had to improvise with his personal listening music when he had forgotten his usual aerobics cassette. Wouldn’t you know it? The class took to his South American tempo with the combination of dance moves like Sinatra to the stage. The rest is history! Zumba is  now enjoyed in 180 countries by millions.

Personalized Attention and Adaptation

A typical class is an hour of movement to these energetic tunes.  Zumba classes can be adapted to the needs of specific attendees (Zumba Gold is for seniors, also different elements of toning vs cardio can be emphasized). Alka’s instructors are all interactive and she/they will relate to the needs of all participants, guiding them throughout the class and ensuring they are moving according to their abilities.
