My name is Alka Sharma and I have three passions: dance, kickboxing and helping people be the best they can be. Fitness is all about passion.
I learned how much a good trainer can help people when I was young, overweight and lacking self-confidence. I trained hard and eventually performed in dance competitions across the United States and Canada. It was at this point that I became passionate about cardio kickboxing and began taking classes at a local gym, training hard to master kickboxing.

I earned my trainer certification at Fitness Kickboxing Canada, a recognized professional organization for kickboxing instructors. My approach as a certified instructor is to use upbeat music and combine dance movements with traditional kicks and punches. This approach can help you to burn up to 400 calories and possibly more in your workouts. But most importantly, you’ll build confidence knowing that you look and feel better as you begin to experience the multiple benefits of my combined choreographed dance and kickboxing routines:

  • better stamina and energy levels
  • increased muscular development and tone
  • better flexibility.

  • weight loss and weight maintenance

Although cardio kickboxing is non-contact, you’ll learn the same punches and kicks and develop the same abilities as people training for competition. You’ll feel more self-assured knowing that you have the ability to deliver a well-placed kick or punch if the need arises.

I like to share my nutrition knowledge with my clients because it actually benefits their workouts. Here’s why: kickboxing is a high intensity sport that requires a lot of energy and the main source of this energy is carbohydrates. These carbohydrates are stored in the muscles and liver as glycogen. Your body uses glycogen (think of it as stored energy) during your workout, and so it’s very important to include carbohydrates in your diet. The secret for success is to choose the right kinds of carbohydrates including whole grains, fruits, vegetables and legumes to keep the energy store full and avoid empty calories.

My studio is bright and airy, a welcoming place. Here, whether you’re a beginner or an advanced student, I teach classes at the appropriate level for your development. As a beginner, you’ll learn and master the fundamental movements. After even just one session, you’ll begin to feel healthier. As your fitness level increases, the program becomes more challenging in order for you to develop body strength. Your core muscles will become stronger and you’ll have toned arms and legs.
